I welcome the initiative to set up an International Network of Italian Theatre. We do not know nearly enough about the history of Italian theatre, and the ephemeral nature of performance means that all too often records are not kept and knowledge is lost. A network of this kind which seeks to promote Italian theatre diachronically and synchronically can be of great use to practitioners, scholars and anyone with an interest in theatre in general.
